Thami Shobede was suffering from Depression, his Mother reveals
Thami Shobede’s mother, Mantombi Buthelezi, has confirmed that her son was suffering from depression, which is believed to be the cause of his death.
The country was shook with the news of Idols SA runner up, Thami Shobede’s untimely death last week.
The 31-year-old had quite an impressive music career since his memorable stint on Idols SA in 2016. He had his whole life ahead of him and was determined to leave a mark in the music industry.
Unfortunately, the the muso was suffering from the silent killer illness, depression, which claimed his life after he was admitted to Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria last week.
Thami’s mother, Mantombi Buthelezi, opened up about her son’s ordeal – saying that he had began to isolate himself from the family.
“The doctor told us he was suffering from depression. I wasn’t really surprised but I didn’t think it would lead to this. On Monday he was fine… but on Thursday he gave in.”
Buthelezi revealed that Thami was been experiencing troubles with non-paying gigs and with him being the breadwinner, this put a huge strain on him.
“He wasn’t a talkative child, so it was hard to tell where he was emotionally. Lately he closed himself in his room for hours. I wish he has spoken to us as his family, I wish I could comfort him. Not so long ago he sent me a message, telling me he will make me proud even though things aren’t going great. He wanted me to trust him and I did.”
